Work 4.0 — working in the new age

Digitalization and virtual platforms in the working world

The buzzword Work 4.0 — also known as Work 4.0 — describes the digitalization of the economy through the use of new, IT-based technologies. This commitment is leading to a change in the working world. Digital tools, automated processes and new forms of communication shape job profiles, tasks and processes. New skills are required, job profiles are changing and new tasks are emerging.

Work 4.0 not only describes changes in the manufacturing sector, but is more comprehensive because organizational and administrative structures are also affected. The corona pandemic has accelerated this change.

Work 4.0 for event managers

This is particularly visible in the event industry. The industry is particularly affected by lockdowns, contact restrictions and event bans. Since 2020, events have only taken place to a limited extent. Personal encounters always involve the risk of an outbreak and an infection. Everything seemed to stop for a while. As it became apparent that the situation would last longer, the search for alternatives becomes more urgent. Digitalization and the associated technologies offer an opportunity here. Work 4.0 has become the solution for an entire industry. Events and meetings are quickly held online. It soon becomes apparent that this format will last. The pandemic has given a boost to the development of digital tools and formats. In particular, this means that the work of event managers is changing. They now primarily have to use digital tools. Where it might have been about designing postal invitations in the past, email templates must now be designed and edited. Anyone who has previously planned the technology for an auditorium must now deal with setting up a studio and broadcasting via live stream. What was previously the establishment of a fire protection concept is now the organization of data security.
Event managers are therefore now fully involved work 4.0 has arrived and even though on-site events are slowly increasing again, many achievements from the last two years will be retained.
This certainly includes the switch to fully digital invitations and online registration, the parallel set-up of a virtual event platform that also includes participants who cannot be on site, and network tools that sustainably organize interaction between participants.

Online networking tools

An example of a frequently used online meeting tool is Wonder. Here, with simple means, very clear and easy to use, a virtual location is created that gives guests the feeling of moving through a room and being able to group together for conversations in different rounds.
Wonder.me works browser-based. The guests change the round of talks via drag and drop and can thus quickly and easily find themselves in a video connection with the other participants. The whole thing is suitable for smaller events as well as for large events. Up to 1500 participants can join a Wonder.me space can be let in. The tool can be easily integrated into your event website via iFrame.

Impacts of Work 4.0

In the B2B sector in particular, stakeholders, representatives, buyers and others network at events. This is where new products are established, business deals made and collaborations initiated. Work 4.0 has consolidated these structures and, above all, made them more comprehensible. If these processes take place digitally, they generate evaluable data that can be read and used in the sales and strategy departments. Work 4.0 is thus accompanied by a development towards greater efficiency.
